Personal Branding Leveraging Hiring Managers and Recruiters in Lehman”s Terms 2:32 Video

Last Year, I asked the question about video resumes and visual portfolio strategies are we there yet? With all the talk about personal branding and the increase in social video platform usage why aren’t companies looking at video resumes more?

Companies like HireVue that do an awesome job of automating the hiring process with video interview technology. They provide a service for companies to screen candidates through video interviews thus improving and making the hiring process more efficient. But what about the job seeker or candidate that is proactive with their own visual resume.

Questions to consider.

What about the job candidate or business networker that initiates a video resume or proposal? How is that being received by recruiters, talent acquisition departments?

Now I get it recruiters are tasked with sourcing right candidate for their paying client. This is the top priority of most recruiters. Recruiters are tasked with reviewing and scanning thousands of resumes and making a judgement in 15 seconds or less prior to a candidate interview screen.

A short video link probably won’t get reviewed because of time constraints. Most recruiters are busy surfing job boards and scanning resumes or using applicant tracking software programs to be more efficient. So much for being innovative, developing a personal brand and leveraging video if your message is not received by the recruiter or human resources. It doesn’t matter how innovative or creative you are if your message does not resonate with it’s audience on the initial contact.

I believe the focus should be getting to the hiring manager or business decision maker to see if your talents, services and skills are the match but why can’t we be more savvy on the front end of recruiting and sourcing?

Let’s face it people are busy today and their time is limited. Sales Managers get numerous emails and calls daily. How can you get through all the noise? First thing is you must deliver value and a compelling reason for a call back. A couple of years ago, I used a short video to get a sales meeting which lead to closing an eight month contract

Why not try a video call to engage your targeted customer.

In Lehman’s Terms, here are some quick video content tips for doing an effective short video clip.

1)      Define and set goals for the video call.  Are you making an introduction, showcasing a product or service, offering a visual testimonial or answering a question?

2)      Deliver and share value to your audience. Solve a problem or solution.

3)      Keep it short and have a set call to action

4)      Follow up.

I just created a new video to market my own services.  I know it’s a Shameless self-promotion video but I tried to stick to my own guidelines and tips.  Please let me know your thoughts on using a short video to engage your sales target audience.

Video goals and guidelines

I am big fan of VisualCV but effective December 30, 2011 their online portfolio resume service is going away. I know there are a few options for online portfolio services out there but I will miss the look and usability of Visual CV.  I open to suggestions on new online services.   Let me know  your thoughts.
