Craig has done a wonderful job of showcasing and spotlighting several industry sales leaders like Eric Quanstrom,  Michaela Prouzova,  Richard Young, Barbara Giamanco, Larry Levine, Amar Sheth to name a few.  I encourage  you to checkout Craig’s blog for solid insight on social and selling today,

welcome to “How I Work It – Social Selling”.

My Interview with Craig and Adaptive Business Services

Could you please tell our readers a little about you?

Craig, I will put it in Lehman’s Terms.  I am a passionate Sales and Marketing Guy that leverages Social Video and Sales to generate results.  I have carried a bag, traveled, trained and been in the sales profession most of my life.  Working for, and supporting, companies and organizations like IBM, Sun Microsystems, Cisco, The Coca-Cola Company to name a few.  I currently work as Sales Video Consultant delivering video marketing programs that utilize social selling and brand awareness campaigns.   Other passions include video blogging and reading up on the latest technology trends in sales, marketing, sports, and entertainment.

How about telling them a little bit about your business?

I specialize in video blogging projects, sales training videos, client testimonials and video interview spotlights for authors, trainers, speakers, business owners and entrepreneurs.  The art of storytelling with a fresh and candid perspective for your clients to conceptualize, visualize, and recognize from B2B and B2C.

How did you get started in selling and when did you begin adding social selling to your business?

I started selling from the day I wanted to influence others on my point of view.  The natural progression was to major in Marketing and start my professional career in sales.  I started leveraging social when I joined LinkedIn back in 2007 which was followed up with me using an online personal branding tool called Visual CV, a personal branding resume site.  The next logical step was to create a website and video blog followed by Twitter, YouTube Channels, etc.

Ironically, SOCIAL selling did not come into play until I left the corporate world. I was on a mission of personal branding and career transition.  I would have loved to leverage social networking and tools back in the day when I was employed by corporate companies like IBM etc.  Now Social Selling and Social Media Marketing are a part of my customer engagement and sales process.

What are your social selling goals, objectives, and strategies?

My goal is simple in Lehman’s Terms, Deliver Value to my clients and grow revenue.  Objectives are reached by having a plan and strategy for building relationships with a purpose.  It comes down to positioning, developing social proof, and becoming a go to resource and subject matter expert.  Can you provide a solution and solve a problem in your social community.  It’s important to share and deliver social content but context is just as important.  Connecting with your targeted audience, collaborating, and building meaningful relationships take work, time, and effort and the strategic focus should be helping and serving others socially.  My mantra is always striving to bring value to my network by actively learning new procedures that can affect positive change.  Social Selling goes both ways from personal sales development and maintaining and growing social relationships.

Do you have regular routines (touches, frequencies, etc.)?

I wish I had a more systematic and process driven approach.  I block out time each day to research and monitor my current social connections and future prospects.  This is usually an hour time frame each day. I consider this time the social listening and social watching hour.  The second phase is building rapport with prospects through social shares, posts, invites, and touch points across multiple social channels. In some cases I will share a social personalized video greeting. Video interaction is the next best thing to being there and helps with building rapport.

The main routine for engagement is establishing which action items and connections are priorities each day.  I try to focus on business revenue and being popular among clients that write and pay the check.

Could you please share with us a few of your favorite social selling tools? (please feel free to say why you have chosen them and how you use them, if you wish).

Video Resumes for Sales & Marketing Recruiters for Hiring Managers, are we there yet?

Personal Branding Leveraging Hiring Managers and Recruiters in Lehman”s Terms 2:32 Video

Last Year, I asked the question about video resumes and visual portfolio strategies are we there yet? With all the talk about personal branding and the increase in social video platform usage why aren’t companies looking at video resumes more?

Companies like HireVue that do an awesome job of automating the hiring process with video interview technology. They provide a service for companies to screen candidates through video interviews thus improving and making the hiring process more efficient. But what about the job seeker or candidate that is proactive with their own visual resume.

Questions to consider.

What about the job candidate or business networker that initiates a video resume or proposal? How is that being received by recruiters, talent acquisition departments?

Now I get it recruiters are tasked with sourcing right candidate for their paying client. This is the top priority of most recruiters. Recruiters are tasked with reviewing and scanning thousands of resumes and making a judgement in 15 seconds or less prior to a candidate interview screen.

A short video link probably won’t get reviewed because of time constraints. Most recruiters are busy surfing job boards and scanning resumes or using applicant tracking software programs to be more efficient. So much for being innovative, developing a personal brand and leveraging video if your message is not received by the recruiter or human resources. It doesn’t matter how innovative or creative you are if your message does not resonate with it’s audience on the initial contact.

I believe the focus should be getting to the hiring manager or business decision maker to see if your talents, services and skills are the match but why can’t we be more savvy on the front end of recruiting and sourcing?

MORE QUESTIONS TO CONSIDER?

What are your thoughts on Video Resumes?

What tools and online portfolios do you use for career development, job search and personal branding?

How do you leverage other social networking sites with Video to share and engage?

How do we get the decision maker or hiring manager to view your visual resume and personal branding material?

Will visual resumes and videos be more proficient in the future for recruiters and talent acquisition teams?

Networking VIDEO “Putting Social in Social Channels”

A face-to-face meeting at a networking event is a great way to connect. We all attend networking events, meetups and social functions but how do we connect and build a relationship or business connection. Do we follow up with a phone call and set up a future meeting? Do we go online later and connect through social media channels. The simple question how do we engage and move the conversation along.

I am obviously passionate about leveraging video and social media to connect. What is the next best thing to being there it’s VIDEO.

In Lehman’s Terms let’s put the social back in networking and reconnect via social channels.

The use of video today is my tool of choice.

February Video Engagement Case Studies

During my last webinar series on how to leverage video to enhance your selling process and improve customer engagement, I spotlighted two dynamic women in Social Media and technology training Adria Richards and Desiree Peeples. Both Adria and Desiree leverage the power of video and provide compelling content to their customers and audience. I am very fortunate to connect with these two ladies back in February. They add value and provided me with excellent cases studies for video engagement. Checkout out the slides below that contain notes. More to come on these case studies in my next post, a Video Response

Filming Outside Atlanta Challenges Delivering The Message

Things to consider when filming outsideIn this video I should have made the following changes to make it more compelling and engaging. When filming video on a rooftop beware of the wind and background sound.  An external microphone or a lavaliere mic can help with sound quality issues. During the jump cut or transition cut, my image was too dark and natural lighting did not provide clarity. Make sure you are aware of the shadowing effect and place your subject in a well-lighted place.

My objective and intent is to be genuine and authentic delivering my message to the city of Atlanta, hence the background environment. My mission is to share tips on social media video through video blogging. An open platform for readers and viewers to conceptualize, visualize and recognize the influence and shift of online video marketing in today’s world.

Video Book Review – Resume Branding 101 “Kim N. Carswell”

A few days ago I made an attempt to do a video book review for author Kim N. Carswell. I was battling adverse weather conditions, tornado storm warnings, noise distractions like Jet Planes flying over from nearby Dobbins Air Reserve Base.  That attempt produced a short educational blooper reel. Needless to say, here is my video book review of Kim’s Book “Resume Branding 101 Strategies for Getting Noticed 10 Seconds or Less” I was able to film the review the next day under better conditions.

This is a must read for anyone who is looking for a new job or underemployed , or simply wants to market their own personal brand in effective manner. More on Kim N. Carswell. Checkout her company at http://www.personaaffairs.com/resume.html

There are a ton books and career coaching services out there that provide tips and templates on how to write a resume but they fall short on how to make it readable and desirable in today’s competitive job market. This is where Kim’s book comes into play and provides that special niche on how to get your resume noticed by a hiring audience.

Kim has an accomplished background on the topics or resume writing, personal branding and the hiring process. She speaks to both sides of the hiring table. She understands the content. This book really touches on the mindset on how to create your own brand identity and market your resume effectively to your hiring audience keeping the reader in mind with the goal of getting the first interview . The book outlines a plan for a specialized Resume Branding Matrix.

Filming outside has it’s Challenges

Filming outside has it’s Challenges..Poor Audio Public Enemy # 1

I love to do video book reviews and host the reviews online. I feel that it is a great form of social video engagement, if your video is open to customer participation. Amazon.com book reviews are a perfect example of this. They allow interaction with readers and viewers to comment, contribute and share their thoughts. It is a true on-going video engagement case study.

A few days ago I was shooting a book review outside and then the fun started.

Video Engagement tip 1  Know your environment and adjust to weather conditions
Video Engagement tip 2 Have a stable tripod
Video Engagement tip 3…Sound quality background sound, prepare for noise issues

Lessons learned from this encounter if you are filming before a thunderstorm hits be prepared duh.. A strong wind can cause havoc, survey your filming surrounding and be on the lookout for jet planes flying by. Jet Planes can bring da noise..essentially Public Enemy Number One. If you didn’t get that last statement see Flavor Flav…hype man for the Rap Group Public Enemy.

Shooting video outside can be fun and evoke curiosity. Coming soon my video book review will be on the topic or resume writing and personal branding strategy for today’s competitive job market. The book is titled “Resume Branding 101 Strategies for Getting Noticed in 10 Seconds or Less by author Kim Carswell. From the video, I made an effort to review Kim’s book during less than ideal conditions and that is why we have pre-production.
