Last Year, I asked the question about video resumes and visual portfolio strategies are we there yet? With all the talk about personal branding and the increase in social video platform usage why aren’t companies looking at video resumes more?

Companies like HireVue that do an awesome job of automating the hiring process with video interview technology. They provide a service for companies to screen candidates through video interviews thus improving and making the hiring process more efficient. But what about the job seeker or candidate that is proactive with their own visual resume.

Questions to consider.

What about the job candidate or business networker that initiates a video resume or proposal? How is that being received by recruiters, talent acquisition departments?

Now I get it recruiters are tasked with sourcing right candidate for their paying client. This is the top priority of most recruiters. Recruiters are tasked with reviewing and scanning thousands of resumes and making a judgement in 15 seconds or less prior to a candidate interview screen.

A short video link probably won’t get reviewed because of time constraints. Most recruiters are busy surfing job boards and scanning resumes or using applicant tracking software programs to be more efficient. So much for being innovative, developing a personal brand and leveraging video if your message is not received by the recruiter or human resources. It doesn’t matter how innovative or creative you are if your message does not resonate with it’s audience on the initial contact.

I believe the focus should be getting to the hiring manager or business decision maker to see if your talents, services and skills are the match but why can’t we be more savvy on the front end of recruiting and sourcing?

Word of Mouth Marketing B2B Sales and Social Influencers how they work together.

Last month, I did a video book review on Fizz: Harness the Power of Word of Mouth Marketing to Drive Brand Growth by author Ted Wright. FIZZ is a great read and I highly recommend to anyone in business, sales and marketing.  A great resource supported by case studies with actual sales results.

I’ve been fortunate to hear Ted speak in Atlanta and it made me think about how word of mouth marketing relates to sales and the power of  leveraging marketing insiders or should I say social influencers to share your business story.

Word of mouth marketing has been around since the dawn of time. Nothing new here but today buyers have more access to information socially and they depend on their friends, peers and in some cases sales and marketing professionals that actually deliver value and insightful information.  What a noble concept for the sales profession.  Simply put buyers don’t trust advertising as much as they do referrals and recommendations from friends, peers and AUTHENTIC INFLUENCERS.
